My motto is "Let go or be dragged"

I have been away from drawing longer than I am willing to admit.
My confidence has always been lacking, but I am fighting to overcome this. In truth I think my shy nature has helped me to be more observant than I would otherwise be in life as well as in art.
I prefer graphite right now- I have been known to jump mediums in the past but I think I'm going to stick with this for a bit- it comes most natural. Thanks for swinging by. I am looking forward to surrounding myself here.
I'm spending an avg 2-4 hours on and off on each of these (one a day).  These are all graphite 5x7's on Bristol smooth drawing paper . The goal of this project is helping me improve likenesses. (hair, teeth, shading etc) Also, to make me let go and move on to the next project. (I sometimes feel I should keep perfecting and I have so many unfinished things that it's painful)
Practice, practice. Hopefully we can all see a bit of improvement over the course of the next 30 pictures. All "victims" were willing participants
and all ref. photos were taken by the victims themselves. Thank you!

You should give colored pencil a shot with your portraits! Made a world of difference for me with my shading.

I would like to. I don't actually own any yet. What type of paper do you use for colored pencil? I decided about 5 drawings into my "selfie project" that I should've probably been using a vellum but since I started on smooth I wanted to keep them consistent. The smooth doesn't hold the graphite (the darks) I like the ability to erase my mistakes as well- colored pencil means less room for error =X

I'll look at what paper I have once I get home but for pencils I use prismacolor verithin, they take more work and time than normal colored pencils. Check out my last two portraits for examples... I've only done three so it wasn't hard to get used to the pencils. Also on smooth paper they erase almost as well as graphite
